EGG BODS EGG CUPS - character cup & spoon sets [2010]

The Egg Bods were a set of characterised egg cups, developed by Bluw, aimed at parents of young children who wanted to encourage them to eat eggs for breakfast (or lunch) as a great source of protein. There were characterised egg cups on the market already, but many were by high-end designers and so were quite expensive for the mass-market.
Once we had established the average egg size and shape we were going to work from, this project was a chance to go pun crazy. The original 2D character concepts were taken in to Solidworks by Ian Morgan, a member of the Bluw design team, to create the 3D visuals below. Meet the Eggsecutive, Eggstra Terrestrial and Eggspert Shopper!
When considering packaging, we tried many alternative options but couldn't get round the problem of communication that the product is an egg cup, without an egg. So we made one! We moulded a fake egg, for use in packaging, that passed all the required safety standards (because eggs are horribly efficient choking hazards).
The packaging design dialled up the toy-like appeal of the characters, while simplistically communicating the product function and appeal.
The character eggs, name and packaging design of these products would later go on to inspire Bluw's big push in to the toy market, with the Eggbod wind-up toys.
